Yes, I do understand why they exist. I have pictures of non-self-inflicted injuries I've had and healing cuts and burns just because it's a morbid fascination of mine. However, I just fail to see the purpose of featuring pictures of fresh, self-inflicted cuts in a book that is published.

I have always viewed my self harm as a very private issue, not something I'll show off to the world, although I'm not ashamed of my scars and wear short sleeves as long there aren't any fresh (or healing) cuts on my arms.

As I said, I can't answer your question, and I haven't read the book (so can't see the photos in their context...) but it is nice to know that A) I'm not the only one with that morbid fascination and B) to meet another person who is not ashamed of their scars

She did say youd learn more than you ever wanted too... I guess this was part of that...

I understand about he warped sense of pride.
I have that.
I dont want to get rid of my scars but i dont like other people seeing them.

Hmm I guess.

I also get that about a warped sense of pride. However, that is something I'm very ashamed to admit, at least in real life, being afraid of coming off as really attention seeking.

With the way she talked about her strips of tissue that she pressed against her cuts, I assumed the photos were for the same purpose. A record of where she was emotionally for each of those cuts. They told a story for her.

She must have took pictures for her Diary which her psychiatrist told her to keep. It was a therapy of sorts for her. She wasn't trying to put herself down by cutting but saving herself. It was helping her, remember that. Not vice versa.

I used to take pictures too. Not for anyone else, but because I was compelled to do so. I think... I think was fascinated by it. I do not know.

I think this might have already been touched upon, but I think she took the pictures for herself to remind her that they were real and they happened, because scars do fade. Compare the pictures in the book to this picture on twitter - the cuts are fairly faint, now.
