I'm with you on that one. I'm in exactly the same boat.

Just checking out the site, and reading what I can (I did german for 8 years, don't remember jack all of it), it seems along the lines of Suicide Girls, the whole alt porn/pin up thing, but lacking (in my opinion, don't bite me for that). Anyway, point being, it's open to opinion and no one's entitled to have to like it just because of Emilie Autumn is their cover girl nor the nature of the photo itself that she's in.

Yeah. It seems quite along the lines of Suicide Girls for me to, and I find it quite strange she would do something like this after Thank God I'm Pretty. I mean she sings:
Quote:
I know my destiny's such, that I'm all stocking and curl
So everybody thinks that I'm a fucking suicide girl
Doesn't that refer to Suicide Girls?

Anyways, in my opinion it's quite sad that she would do something like this...

But that's my opinion. Everyone else is free to have theirs...

I think that this is a really good direction for Emilie to take! I don't really understand why people are saying it is changing her or whatever. It is one of the best photos of Emilie yet! I will be buying this!
Is it an issue that her lyrics contradict her persona? Does it really matter at the end of the day? I've always thought that this was what she was about. The whole Victorian influence - The victorians were a very straight-laced society, AND although this did appear to be the facade many see and continue to see, they had a really dark, perverted side too. There were a great amount of brothels and whore houses, there was the pornography - and Victorian Porn is quite explicit, even against toadays standards! Emilie even discusses this whole idea of the perversion of the camera etc, in an interview on youtube!. How as soon as technology is created like a camera, porn is the first thing we do - it is natural. Also this ties in with the whole Victorian thing again as they were concerned all about appearance as representative of morality. So is Emilie not, to try and justify in a way that explains her steampunk/violindustrial/victorian influence, subverting these ideas/ideals? Living the double life of having two personas? Laced and unlaced?
I don't know if anyone will agree with what I am saying. But I have said it anyway.
I think this is just natural; not pornographic. And from what I have said above, I don't think it "lessens" her position as an artist but increases it. Pehaps look at the preface of Wilde's The Portrait of Dorian Grey I cant be bothered to write it all, but this about sums it all up form me:
"DIVERSITY OF OPINION ABOUT A WORK OF ART SHOWS THAT THE WORK IS NEW, COMPLEX, AND VITAL."
I shall end my ramble there.

^ yeah, i get that.

but EA has sung a bit about sexual liberation. i dont see this as pandering to a base audience. its more along the lines of praticing what you preach... and using it instead of it using you!

You don't know if we agree with what you've written?! Of course we, at least I do!
That's exact what I'm thinking! ;)

@Bunny, ok, you have a point. Things did go a wee bit too far on numerous occasions.

Mmm... using it instead of you? What do you mean, exactly? Using the viewer of art, or Emilie using herself?
And also I realise that as I wrote that whole rant, Oscar Wilde even finishes his preface by saying "ALL ART IS QUITE USELESS". So I thought I would say that before somebody else got the boot in! Ha!

i mean using your sexuality to get what you want. not to be used like an object because of it.

but I'm a total tool... so the value of anything i type is really debateable! :D

Its a very nice picture, but the more important point for me after reading through the posts that followed the picture - are the boobie covers actually called pasties, because all I can think of now are cornish pasties and it is really hindering my enjoyment of the picture!!!!!
